Wow, long time no blog. Where to start? Well, I’m still jobless and poor. Nothing ever really changes.
Anyways, I got back from the Mexico trip this Sunday. It was actually pretty fun. Not life-changing in any way, but still eye-opening. We were down there with a group of Free Methodists (the opposite of Enslaved Methodists?) who were…crazy. But then, so were three of the four YouthWorks volunteers down on the site. I mean, thanking God for all the sick people we had during the last couple of days? What’s up with that? Aside from the rather scary prayers and odd conversations (“God laid it on my heart to go out with my current girlfriend, whom I’ve broken up with four or five times over the past nine months…”), it was all right. Mexico is a very different world, especially from Washington state. Up here in Washington, everything’s wonderful and green. In Mexico, it was all sand. Sand everywhere. On the streets, in my shoes, on my glasses, in…unmentionable places. It was worse than a beach, especially since there wasn’t much water to speak of. Oh sure, there was the Rio Grande, but with all the water diverted for irrigation (and it being the dry season), it was more like the Rio Trickle. We did get a rather spectacular thunderstorm the last night in Juarez, though. I haven’t seen lightning like that since I left Katy. It was cool.
We did other stuff, of course, but it’s late and I’m tired, so I probably won’t end up writing about it. Meh. It was cool, though. I wouldn’t do it again, but I’m glad I did it this time.
In other news, with only two months to go before I go off to college, I probably won’t get a job this summer. Bummer. That means I do have to work for my uncle, which is offset by the fact that I get a cell phone for my trouble. Yay. Hopefully my arms will last long enough for me to use the cell phone…
