First day at my job and I’m loving it already! Any job that lets me have access to some of the best computers money can buy has got to be a good one. Yeah, so the only good computers are Macs, but they’re G5’s, which are extra-nice. I suppose I can get used to using Mac OS, even if it can be a bit confusing at times.
Mostly, I just do odd jobs with the last hour of every day I work being devoted solely to checking video equipment in and out, makiing sure everything’s there and in working order. Shouldn’t be too hard. I also help out a lot of the graduate students with projects they might be working on, which may include video and audio stuff, or scanning slides, paper, etc. It’s really a very nice job for me, even if it does get a little tedious when I have nothing to do. Then again, that just means I can sit at one of the G5’s and muck around to my heart’s content. And while download speeds are fast all around campus (like, 400 kbps on average), I’ve gotten speeds of up to 2.5 megs per second, which is incredibly fast! Of course, it’s not always that fast, and I sure don’t plan on using up their bandwidth on the job, it is pretty cool to know.
My classes were pretty nice today as well, although I do have a philosophy reading to get through before the lecture tomorrow. All in all, it looks like a pretty fun line-up. Not only that, but I’ll be going home to visit on Friday! That will definitely be nice.
