Ah, summer. That time of joy when there’s no school to bug you. No tough classes, no bad college food, no nothing. Unless you’re taking summer classes (haha!). It is, unfortunately, a time where a summer job would come in handy real nice.
I’ve been back from the U of Washington for about a week now, and I still have yet to be hired, even though I’ve applied to numerous places even before the school year ended. Anyone familiar with my past exploits would know that this isn’t the first time I’ve been ignored (for a time) by employers. I figured this year would be different, considering I had a job during school. But noooo. Granted, I’m not being completely fair, considering it’s still only the second week of my summer vacation, but since both of my younger sisters already have jobs (okay, one is still in the interview stage, but she’s pretty much guaranteed a job at this point), I think I have a right to complain a bit.
On the bright side, I went into Best Buy today to ask about an application I had submitted (my experience would suit a job there perfectly) and they told me they’d be calling applicants over the next few days. Unfortunately, Best Buy is one of the best (no pun intended) places to work during the summer. My significant experience with both computer hardware and software (not to mention cameras, TVs, phones, MP3 players, etc.) should put me above most other applicants, but even that’s not certain. For all I know, there are a whole bunch of Boeing ex-employees looking for jobs in Burlington. No clue why they’d want to do that, but it could happen.
I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any other possible job openings (and there are probably going to be a lot). I can’t imagine I wouldn’t get a job this summer. It was bad enough last summer, when I thought being 18 would get me a job. Now I’m 19 and I actually have work experience and professional references. Plus I’m good at Halo. They can’t possibly turn me down! Soon, I will rule the world! Or maybe just the lower Skagit Valley…
