PicLens

PicLens is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a fullscreen 3D image browsing plugin for Firefox (and its derivative, Flock), Internet Explorer, and Safari that finds pictures on certain websites and displays them in a Windows Media Center looking interface, where you can select pictures, start a slideshow, and generally bask in the 3D goodness of scrolling through hundreds of pictures at top speed. All the pictures are displayed in a huge wall, and you can control the zoom level with the mouse wheel. Hold down one of the arrow keys and watch the wall fly by, unless there’s only a few pictures, in which case it doesn’t do much of anything.

A good place to try it out is Flickr or Google Image Search. With those, it’s not even limited to the pictures on a given page. It’ll automagically grab pictures from the next pages (in other words, I was able to view my entire Flickr archive simply by going to the first page in it). Serious awesomeness, but I suppose it’s really only good if you have a decent Internet connection. With dial-up, you’ll probably be waiting forever for the pictures to load.

Anyways, here are a few screenshots for you to chew on, all using pictures from my Flickr account.

OMGWTF, TMI, LOL

This has got to be the single strangest thing I have ever seen posted on the Internet, not counting images.

WTF Diapers

I came across this on Reddit (that’s right, Digg is lame, and not just because of this kind of thing) and here is the original link.

And for further evidence of the awesomeness of Reddit, refer to the following comments on an article called Proposal to erect XXX domain faces stiff opposition (even the name…):

Reddit Innuendo

Priceless.

Civilized, eh?

If there’s a group of people worse than uber-conservative bloggers like Michelle Malkin, it’s the people who comment on her articles. Take sammy316 on this article regarding forced marriages.

This kind of crap may fly in India or any land of perpetual outrage where goats and cattle mean something, but in the civilized world we like our marriages short and painful. Well not all of course, some people do beat the odds. (Emphasis added.)

I’m sure India would love to hear that they aren’t considered civilized.

Taco Bell and Daniella

So I walked into a Taco Bell the other day and noticed that some of the sauce packets were colored purple. I picked one up and saw that it had a link on it: DirectDaniella.com

I visited the site today and…um, wow. Taco Bell apparently decided to hook up with Sports Illustrated to create a website where you are the photographer for a swimsuit model in the Grand Cayman Islands. Why? I can’t even imagine. It’s certainly an odd promotion, especially since I can’t see anyone but single guys taking the time to check this site out to its fullest extent.

At least it’s better than what I originally thought it was: a contest where the prize was the chance to be the photographer at a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated. That would certainly be a prize targeted at a limited demographic.

Star Trek XI

YouTube Preview Image

I’ve always been a Trek fan. Not as fanatic as Trekkies (Trekkers, whatever), but I did watch the entire original series of Star Trek over a couple of summers as a boy. So when I say I’m looking forward to the new Star Trek movie, I mean I’m looking forward to it. Well, I don’t know what else I’d mean if I said that…chalk up another pretty much useless statement by me.
