University of Washington

I got accepted into the University of Washington! Go me!

That’s really the only interesting thing that’s happened this week. Meh.

The Democratic States of Free Askar is a tiny, socially progressive nation, notable for its burgeoning askarian eagle population. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Social Welfare, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 23%. A large private sector is led by the Cheese Exports industry, followed by Woodchip Exports and Door-to-door Insurance Sales.

Crime is a problem. Free Askar’s national animal is the askarian eagle and its currency is the askot.

Ian got me hooked. I don’t like the bit about the cheese, but there’s not much I can do about that. Meh.

I got back from PLU yesterday. It was all right. I was planning to rant on how I’m doomed to mediocrity because I’m not some rich snob who can drop a few thousand dollars on quality equipment, but I realized that would be whining, and I’m not much of a whiner. But I have decided I’m not continuing on with concert performance in college. No more clarinet for me, until I’m filthy rich and can afford a really good one. Instead, I’ll concentrate more on marching band. I think I’d have a lot of fun playing at football games and doing field shows. Yeah.

I also got new glasses. They’re snazzy.

Week of death and misery and nasty things

This is the week of death and misery and nasty things that hide under your bed. I’ll see if I can summarize it for you:

Today – Bowling at 6:30
Tues – Marching practice 2:30-4; dinner at Grandma’s; youth group at 6:30 (no bowling practice thankfully)
Wed – Basketball game at 6:30
Thurs – Marching practice 2:30-4; bowling practice 4:45-5:45
Fri – Basketball game at 6:30
Sat – Bowling game at 1:20, parade at 3:00

And who knows what else may crop up. I had been planning to take Lindsay bowling or something (heh, as if I need more bowling), but it doesn’t look like I have much free time. I suppose if I really wanted to, I could skip the Friday game…I dunno. This just isn’t a good week to have a social life. But at least I finished my UW application! *dances*

Honor Student Invitational

Got back from a stay at University of Washington yesterday. I was there Tuesday and Wednesday checking out the campus, eating college food, and staying in the dorms. I must say, it’s a nice place. I’m fairly certain I’ll be going there. I was there with 59 other Washington students during the Honor Student Invitational. Next week there’ll be 60 more kids at UW, doing the same thing. During my session, I didn’t meet anyone I knew, but I talked with some kids from around the Seattle area. Nothing very exciting happened, but I had a lot of fun. At least they didn’t give us a sample of college coursework. The dorms were bad enough…

So now I’m back at home, still doing nothing. My job search has been postponed pending further notice. No, really, I haven’t looked for any new jobs because this upcoming Sunday I’ll be off to Woodburn, Oregon for another mission trip with my church youth group. I suppose it’ll be fun. I mean, last year was a blast, even if there was gratuitous praying involved. I think I’ll just skip out on that aspect of it this year. Or try to, at least. I don’t want to get in any confrontations over my beliefs. A lot about me has changed since July of 2004. It’s kind of weird to think about that…

Spring Break

Ah, Spring Break at last! Too bad it’s cold and rainy and our heater refuses to work. Oh hey, it’s sunny out! Now, why was I not informed of this development?

In other news, I still can’t believe I got a 103 on my AP Chem test. I was expecting a high B or a low A, but not almost perfect! It’s that good ol’ Logan luck.

So next Saturday I need to be in Walla Walla early in the morning for Whitman’s college visit day. That means we (my parents and I) will have to drive over there on Friday and stay the night. I hope we get a semi-good hotel. Those Howard Johnsons get scary as you go east. And some other time this week, I’ll go down to UW and do a tour and drop in on a class. This week looks to be fun already!

Also, have any of you heard of a movie called Sahara? I didn’t until last night whilst I was watching Seinfeld. Apparently, it’s coming out on the 8th. From the previews, it looks like a good old-fashioned adventure/action movie in the style of Indiana Jones or The Mummy. I have no idea who’s in it, except for that Macy guy who was in Jurassic Park III. If I get some cash over the week, I think I’ll go see it.

And now, I shall endeavor to find warmth in this refrigerator we call a house.
