Exclusivity sucks

I’m unintentionally continuing on my gaming post trend. I was watching G4 earlier and saw some stuff about a new action/role-playing game called Mass Effect developed by BioWare. It looks pretty interesting, and I’ve played games by BioWare before. They tend to have a big emphasis on story-telling, and I love games with an engaging story.

Unfortunately, the game was released only for the Xbox 360. What’s worse is that BioWare has no plans to develop the game for the PC. Another good game ruined by what I see as a lazy developer. I mean, the PC is still a good gaming platform. Why, then, do so many developers come out with games exclusive to certain consoles? I don’t want to buy a freakin’ Xbox. If that means I’m not going to buy a game like Mass Effect, then that’s the loss of the game developer. Ignoring an entire (and rather large) portion of the video game market is about the best thing you can do to get people to dislike you.

BioWare used to develop games for the PC, too. Even the most recent game they developed before Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was made for both the Xbox and the PC. Before that, they were PC-only, since no one thought an RPG could really work that well on a console.

I really don’t have anything against consoles. They have their uses. I don’t want to be forced to buy one, though. I already own a decent computer. Buying something else that only plays games is a bit…redundant. And to have to pay for multiplayer? Seriously, no thanks. But it seems like PC gamers are being left behind, especially now that gaming consoles can look better than high-end PCs without costing nearly as much. Of course, if you add in the gigantic HD television set needed to fully appreciate the look of console games, the cost can go up quite a bit. Realistically, though, the PC gaming market isn’t dead yet. It’s not even close. But when good games are made for consoles and not for PC, it can be just a little bit irritating.

Dammit, that G4 review is really making me want Mass Effect. It looks like a sweet game. Curse you, BioWare! You might make me buy an Xbox 360, but I won’t like it… I know, I’m weak-willed. Sometimes.

Parade time

I can’t believe I still haven’t seen Episode III!! The suspense is killing me! People are going to be spoiling it for me all weekend long! AGH!

Yeah, so I have a parade in Spokane over the weekend with the marching band. We leave at around nine-ish on Saturday morning, drive all the way over to Spokane, do the parade, spend the night, head home, and show up back at the high school sometime Sunday afternoon. Fun times. I’ll have to remember to bring batteries. Wouldn’t it really suck if my CD player died halfway to Ellensburg? Oh, the insanity.

People are whiners

I have decided that people in general are whiners. Yes, that’s a generalization, but it has proven true too many times for me to ignore. I have some good friends who aren’t whiners, but some of my other good friends…let’s just say they don’t like to do something about their “situation”. I’m sure if those people ever read this blog, they’d know what I’m talking about.

I’ve also decided that being sick is the worst thing in the world besides Hansen. Except Hansen isn’t around anymore. So being sick is the worst thing besides cooked spinach and rocking chairs. And horrible Star Trek/Star Wars crossovers. The worst things in life were never meant to be. I mean, what kind of weirdo would pick up a spinach leaf and think “Hey, maybe this will taste good if I cook it until it has the consistency of Jello”? Right. I just went on a mini-rant. …cool.

I just recently downloaded the Half-Life 2 demo. I stopped playing it after five minutes. Half-Life is the creepiest game I have ever played. But it also has the nicest graphics. I mean this game looks almost realistic. No wonder you have to have a crazy-fast computer and graphics card to play it. Ah, I love my GeForce4.

So as a reminder to all you people out there who just happened to stumble across my blog, only YOU can prevent forest fires.

Holee crap. I just watched the teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode III. It’s frickin’ amazing!! This is going to be the biggest Star Wars movie since A New Hope came out in the ’70s! You have to watch this. Even if you’re a Trekkie, you have to appreciate the immensity of Revenge of the Sith. Now I’m probably breaking some rules here, but I couldn’t care less. From what I’ve heard, the only place you can see the Episode III trailer is on Hyperspace at StarWars.com, and that costs mucho deniero. However, I found that you can go see it here for free. (Future Cody’s note: the link no longer works. But considering Ep. 3 has been out for a while now, I don’t think you need the trailer that badly.)

I strongly urge to watch it. It’s awesome. I just can’t say how awesome it is. But I’ll try: it’s superamazingawesomespectacularwowijustcantkeepitincool!!! Watch the trailer, and may the Force be with you.
