Life update

Unlike Bagel over at RationReality, my blog absence isn’t the result of sickness and depression, but of a rather sinister combination of finals, moving, and lack of an Internet connection. That last bit may cause some people to call me a liar and accuse me of avoiding my blog because I’m in a creative slump and couldn’t come up with a blog post if I was being held hostage in front of a computer and told that for every minute I stalled an innocent kitten would be denied fame on ICHC. Those people are wrong. In reality, I’m leeching wireless off of some poor schlob who couldn’t be bothered to change the default name of their wireless network, much less put a password on it. It’s a poor connection, and I’m busy with packing and moving, so I’m only connecting for long enough to post this and browse through Reddit for some laughs.

I suppose it’d be useful to explain why I don’t have an Internet connection. My family is in the process of moving into a house closer to town (okay, in town). Unfortunately, utilities like television, phone, and Internet service aren’t due to be hooked up until the 20th. Until then, I’ll be spending my time watching Farscape on my laptop and playing Mass Effect. Well, during the time that isn’t spent packing up my entire life and moving it to a smaller house. Fun.

And the month isn’t even half over. In about a week, I’ll be starting my summer job with the county (working for Parks and Rec). Exciting, huh? Yeah, not really. I’m going to be one busy guy, but I’ll be sure to make time for a rant every so often. After all, this isn’t the Mad Silence of a Raving Genius, is it?

Back to school

School starts on the seventh. Woe is me! I haven’t finished my summer reading yet. David Copperfield, if anyone’s interested. Maybe I’ll go find a Cliff’s Notes somewhere…

In other news, the first football game of the season (high school, that is) was Friday. Pretty fun. I went with my sister and talked with a few friends about whatnot. We won, which was surprising. Maybe we’ll have a good team this year. Burlington-Edison hasn’t won the state championship since 1987, I believe. But we went to state two years back and held our own. I hope this year is the same.

To all who have me on Star Trek simms: I’m sorry if I haven’t posted that much. With school starting in less than three days, I’m a bit swamped. I hope to be back at normal posting levels soon, once things settle down and I don’t have to worry about this stupid summer reading. Gar.

A few days ago I went to the local Bargains Galore and bought Deus Ex: Invisible War for five bucks. I almost felt like I was robbing the nice little old lady behind the counter. However, I found out that my computer doesn’t like Deus Ex. The Eidos tech support guy said it was my soundcard (of all things), so my dad went out and bought me a new one at Office Max (not quite the one I wanted, but pretty much the same), but the game is still being annoying. I know it’s not the game (looks as good as new), so it means that my computer is at fault. Probably the video card. That video card has a pretty poor track record. But I don’t have the $200 to get a new (good) one, so here I am, stuck playing Deus Ex and having it freeze on me every five minutes for no apparent reason.

Sometimes I wonder if the computer gods hate me.

Last day of school

Last day of school was today! I have two syllables for that: suh-WEET! *parties*

Freeeedom!

School is almost out. Only three and a half days until freedom! Well, a week of freedom before I start working…somewhere. Which reminds me, I should pick up some job applications and fix up my resume (I know, there needs to be an accent or two on there, but I’m to lazy to fire up the ol’ character map and find one). What’s left? I’ll go down the classes and try to remember anything important.

AP Chemistry–working on organic chem packet, may or may not be a final, best to be prepared anyways.
German II–(horrible class, I wish I’d never taken it) no final, working on some incredibly lame lantern project which has no relation to the class whatsoever
Comparative Religions–definite final, most likely just on Islam as opposed to all that we’ve learned so far
Research Writing–no final, just a project on the “State of Education” (which, for any interested, is right next to Wyoming, just kidding)
Band–no more playing (yay!), some recycle runs, and a pitiful excuse for a final (one or two questions about random things)
Math–no final, just another lame project that involves drawing a picture using function equations (linear, direct/inverse power, exponential, period, etc), of course, I’m already done, but I still don’t like the project

So, doesn’t look like I have too much to worry about. Except, of course, trying to keep my grade in German above a B-. I swear, if it hasn’t already, that class will ruin my GPA. I should have taken Spanish…
