Where the hell is Matt?

…it seems that my blog has become a place for YouTube videos.

Full time job = no time blog

For the first summer ever, I have managed to actually get a full-time job. I honestly don’t know what was going on the past couple summers when I tried applying to every business in my home town, but this year I’m working for the county’s parks and recreation department. Not my ideal job, but it’s steady income.

As a result of my new 40-hour week, I haven’t had much time to get on my blog and post stuff. This is unfortunate, but it’s happened before. Everyone hits a slump now and again. I figure I’m just too beat to get properly irritated at world events. Or maybe I’ve become jaded enough that I simply can’t get properly irritated? That would be disturbing.

For lack of anything better, here’s a video. It involves SCIENCE. Kind of.

Tiddy?

I’ve seen some crazy commercials, but this one takes the cake.

First off, the name. Tiddy Bear? Seriously. And then there’s the placement of the bear in the first part of the commercial: face down in womens’ cleavage. That’s either bad design or the women are doing it wrong. Alternately, it could explain the name Tiddy…

The idea, of course, is a good one. I’ve seen soft pads for seatbelts, but they tend to be beige rectangles, not a fuzzy bear that looks more at home on the backpack of an 8 year old. ‘Nuff said.

April Fools’ Day

Every year, I tell myself that I’m going to make an awesome April Fools’ version of my blog, and every year I forget about it until the last minute. I remember one year, I was planning on putting sponsors all over my website. That was a long time ago, and in retrospect, it’s a lame idea. A lot of April Fools’ ideas are pretty lame, but I guess it mainly depends on how you view April 1st. For instance, I find it mildly funny that xkcd points you to Questionable Content, while Questionable Content links to Dinosaur Comics, and Dinosaur Comics links back to xkcd. I also find it funny that the Telegraph reported on flying penguins, and Google and Virgin teamed up to establish a colony on Mars (complete with a questionnaire).

Even better is YouTube RickRolling everyone who clicked on a featured video on the front page (on a related note, GameFAQs has a RickRoll poll on the front page), or College Humor getting bought by some MySpace diva. (Unfortunately, they took that down before I was able to get a screenshot and Google’s cached version is just a few hours off.)

As with every April Fools’ Day, there’s going to be funny stuff, not-so-funny stuff, and stuff that’s just weird. And then there’s stuff like Dextre the Magnificent. Actually, that did make me laugh. In a nerdy sort of way. You know, with the snort and requisite pushing up of the glasses.

Supercooled water

Now this is a pretty sweet little experiment. Super-cooled water (below the freezing point but still liquid). It’s not quite stable, so once it leaves the bottle…instant slushie.
